A complete Montgó circuit

From mountain atmosphere to Mediterranean coastline

The Montgó Ghost Town E-MTB route combines several of the most distinctive riding areas between Jávea and Dénia. The first part climbs from Elite Bikes towards Les Planes, the plateau between the Montgó and Cap de Sant Antoni. From there, the route reaches the unusual abandoned El Greco development, locally known as the Pueblo Fantasma or Ghost Town.

After the viewpoint stop, the ride continues down towards Dénia and Les Rotes before turning inland through La Xara and the countryside around Jesús Pobre. The final section completes the circuit around the Montgó and returns to Jávea.

This is not a short sightseeing spin. At 47.7 km with approximately 505 metres of climbing, riders need a suitable e-MTB, a charged battery and confidence on a mixture of roads, gravel tracks and off-road sections.

  • Not recommended as a first-ever mountain-bike ride

How long is the Montgó Ghost Town E-MTB route?

The Komoot route is approximately 47.7 km with around 505 metres of elevation. The recorded ride time is approximately 4 hours and 10 minutes, but stops, group size and trail conditions can make the complete outing longer.

Where does the route start and finish?

The loop starts and finishes at Elite Bikes, Avenida de la Fontana 4 in Jávea. It passes Les Planes, Pueblo Fantasma, Les Rotes, Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre.

Is the route suitable for beginners?

It is classified here as intermediate. Riders should already be comfortable using an e-MTB on asphalt, gravel and off-road tracks and should be able to manage nearly 48 km safely.

Can I rent an e-MTB from Elite Bikes?

Yes, subject to availability. An Elite Bikes rental e-MTB costs €65 per person and includes a helmet and bike lock. Reserve in advance because Sunday availability can be limited.

Is the guided ride free?

Our community Sunday ride is free when you bring your own suitable e-MTB. Routes change from week to week, so contact us to ask whether the Ghost Town route is planned. Rental bikes remain chargeable.

Can I enter the abandoned Ghost Town buildings?

No entry into unstable, private or restricted structures is included or recommended. Stay in safe accessible areas, obey signs and respect property boundaries.

Can I follow the route independently?

You can review the public Komoot map, but you remain responsible for navigation, current access restrictions, weather, trail conditions, equipment and personal safety. A mapped route does not guarantee that every section is currently open or suitable.
